Does the constant buzz about celebrities ever get on your nerves?

celebrity buzz
Baby Gurlz asked:

Does it ever bother you that you have to hear about it every time a celebrity takes a ****? That it has to cover the fron pages of every magazine, bad motherhood, “baby bumps”, “bling-bling”. And it’s always the same god damn celebrites. It has gotten to the point where I don’t even want to watch certain movies because I won’t be able to enjoy them, because I’ll see said celebrity’s face and I’ll be thinking about their private life rather than concentrating on their role as a character. I don’t think we should be constantly hearing about celebrity’s personal lives. I think they should just do their job and entertain us, that’s what their getting paid for. There’s more important news anyway.
A list of celebrities that I am getting sick of seeing and hearing about:

1. Brittney Spears
2. Eva Longoria (her damn face is everywhere. what’s so special about her anyway?)
3. Angelina Jolie
4. Lindsey Lohan
5. Paris Hilton
6. Nicole Richie
7. Madonna
8.And oh, just all of them.
And it also pisses me off that we have to hear about their latest shopping sprees and what they had for luch and where they go to hang out at night. I don’t give a flying F*** that Brittney likes Starbucks. It’s like having a permanent fixture of a teenage girl yapping away into her cell phone, whipped up in a verbal frenzy about the latest color in nail polish in your living room and you can’t remove it.

Football is More Than Just a Popular Sport

Daniel Millions asked:

For most people, it’s common fact that football is the most popular sport in the world. However, not everybody realizes the significant role football plays in many people’s everyday life.

Eleven players grace the field for each team, playing with an unmatched combination of both speed and endurance. The game is all about skillful control of the feet, which is important not also but keeping balance but also controlling the game ball. In fact, the only football player allowed to use his hands is the goal, which is understandable in preventing an unfair advantage for the offensive team.

Throughout the world, football fans are known for their passionate loyalty. The sport is far more than just a game for most fans. Many games, especially those between international teams, have political undertones. Even between teams from the same country, rivalry leads to behavior that often gets out of hand. Fans commonly chant profane insults at the competing team’s players and fans. Unfortunately, violence has found a place in the sport’s culture. Every year, there are reports of players and coaches mysteriously reported missing or dead after losing a key match.

Football is typically a low-scoring affair. Even though football has the longest playing time of all popular sports, scores for either team very rarely exceed more than a couple points for each team. Teams usually exchange possession of the ball dozens of times before a play resulting in a scored point. It’s possible for the game to result in a tie, although players typically compete in a shootout if the score is tied after the regulation time and stoppage time.

Children around the globe dream of playing professional football, and pick up the sport at a very young age. Young kids are playing football before they can walk, and play for several teams at a time during their early childhood and teenage years. The professional leagues have several levels of competition, similar to minor league system used by baseball in the United States. It’s not uncommon for teenage football players to find themselves signing lucrative professional contracts even before they can legally drive an automobile.

Professional football players instantly earn gratification as a national icon once they put on their team’s jersey. Celebrities such as David Beckham, Pele and Ronaldinho are household names because of their success on the football field. The top professional football players are overwhelming harassed by the paparazzi, similar to that of a star musician or popular actress. On the other hand, professional football players are able to demand a significant amount of money by endorsing or promoting a business’ product.

Unfortunately, like all professional athletes, not ever football player is an exceptional role model prepared for the global attention. Similar to other sports, many professional football players get caught using illegal substances, either for recreation or to enhance sports performance. In addition, battery and fighting are other unfortunate occurrences often associated with rowdy players.

However, it’s important not to stereotype football players by the poor choices made by a few immature athletes. Even with the corruption involved in professional football, the sport provides great benefits for all of the players. Aside from the obvious physical fitness benefits and the potential financial benefits of playing a sport professionally, the game provides an inspiration for people of all ages to commit to something larger than themselves.

Alternative Music - History and Facts Revealed

Sayid Aksa asked:

The evolution of music has brought forth hundreds of music variations in so many forms to the basic music categories. This diversity in music forms have categorized in alternative music those ish style music that come as slight style alterations to most popular music forms (i.e. alternative rock or rock-ish music for rock music that does not really fit into the mainstream genres of a particular time period).

Alternative music is a category coined as a sort of catch-all for those sub-genres that are unclassified but can be traced with similarities to popular genres. These alternative music are usually those that were not released commercially and are recorded on independent labels. Some music from this category, from word of mouth, would soon find its way into the mainstream and become commercially successful.

Off-Country

Country music that does not conform to the prevailing country style is generally classified as alternative music. Musicians playing alternative country music are generally those who do not subscribe to high production values and popularity concerns. Their music are of lo-fi sound quality and often incorporated strong punk and rock and roll qualities and contained lyrics that are bleak, gothic or socially aware. The range of their music spans American folk tune to rockabilly and honky-tonk to a fusion of rock and country music. Alternative country music has developed several namesakes like Americana, neotraditional, progressive country, lo-fi country, and twang core.

Not-so-hip Hip-Hop

The alternative version of hip hop has not been very popular. Artists claiming to play alternative rap or alternative hip hop are non-conformists who wish to turn from the common drug and violence-directed mainstream rap. Alternative hip-hop fuses influences from funk, rock, jazz, soul and reggae. Some of these alternative hip-hop groups have somehow found themselves in mainstream success like Black Star, Mos Def, De La Soul, M.I.A., Kidz in the Hall, Consequence, Jurassic 5 and Brand Nubian.

Electric Rock

Alternative music is most often used to refer to alternative rock. It used to be that the word alternative was used in the 1980s to refer to punk rock-inspired bands that do not belong to major record labels and have no clear genre association. There are a lot of influences in alternative rock namely, grunge, Britpop, gothic rock and indie pop. Most of these alternative rock artists were considered cult acts and recorded their albums on independent labels. Their popularity was largely due to the exposure their alternative music got in college radios and word-of-month. The band Nirvana entry in the alternative music scene has propelled the popularity of several other bands playing alternative rock music. Metallica is another group who made it big in the mainstream music world playing alternative rock.

Perhaps an offshoot of alternative rock is alternative dance music. This kind of music combined elements of dance-pop which includes forms of electronic house or techno, and alternative rock genres. Alternative dance music can be characterized as mostly electronic, pre-programmed beats and sequenced synthesizer melodies.

As there will always be popular music, there will always be a spot for alternative music. After all, there will always be music that falls somewhere in-between, music that is somewhat like but not entirely the same as what is predominantly popular at a certain period in time.

Stephen Campbell asked:

Classic books have proven their worth for their contribution for social development, changes, and awakening. A lot of great changes can be attributed to the contributions made by classic stories which have touched the minds and hearts of lots of people up to the present time.

Below are some classic book stories which have been a great value for their contribution in society:

1. The Wonderful Wizard of Oz is a children’s novel written by L. Frank Baum and illustrated by W.W. Denslow. It was originally published by the George M. Hill Company in Chicago in 1900, and has since been republished several times, sometimes under the name The Wizard of Oz. The story chronicles the adventures of a girl named Dorothy in the Land of Oz. It is one of the best-known stories in American popular culture and has been widely translated.

2. The Art of War is one of the oldest books which feature military strategy in the world. It is the first and one of the most successful work on techniques and has had a big influence on Eastern and Western military thinking, business tactics, and beyond. Sun Tzu was the first to acknowledge the significance of positioning in strategy and that position is affected both by objective conditions in the physical environment and the subjective opinions of competitive actors in that environment. He taught that techniques was not planning in the sense of working through a to-do list, but rather that it needs quickly responding exactly to changing conditions.

3. Frankenstein– also called ‘ The Modern Prometheus’– is a novel written by the British author Mary Shelley. Shelley wrote the this classic story when she was 18 years old. The first edition was published an put into market anonymously in London in 1818. Shelley’s name appears on the revised third edition, published in 1831. The title of the novel pertains to a scientist, Victor Frankenstein, who learns how to develop life and creates a being in the likeness of man, but larger than average and more powerful. In contemporary popular culture, people have tended to refer to the Creature as “Frankenstein” (especially in films since 1931), despite this being the name of the scientist. Frankenstein is a novel infused with some elements of the Gothic novel and the Romantic movement or activities.

There are other classic written books who have made a popular impact in different places all over the world. In fact, most of these classic books have been presented to public in different art media like theater, film, radio, etc.

James Shenton asked:

Are you a movie dunce? Do you not know your Corleone from your Kurosawa? Would you recognise a lightsaber if it hit you in the face? Well, don’t panic. To help you catch up on your movie knowledge here’s a crash course in the top 10 movies of all time, as voted by the readers of the Internet Movie Database. Careful, though… here be spoilers.

10. Star Wars IV: A New Hope

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far, away . . .

Luke Skywalker, farmhand and son of Darth Vader, is torn from his home when his aunt and uncle are murdered by Imperial Storm Troopers searching for the stolen plans to the Death Star, a space station with weaponry capable of destroying planets. Luke escapes with his two droids, Jedi Knight Obi Wan Kenobi, smuggler Han Solo and first mate Chewbacca.

After escaping Tatooine, the ragtag crew stumble upon the Death Star shortly after it has destroyed the planet Alderaan. Caught by its tractor beam, their ship is dragged in. While attempting to escape the Death Star the team rescue Princess Leia, held prisoner in the ships bowels. During the rescue Obi Wan sacrifices himself to allow the others to escape.

In a grand finale, Luke destroys the Death Star by firing a missile into a weak spot in the structure of the ship and Darth Vader, is cannoned off into the depths of space.

Quote: I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced.

Trivia: Al Pacino, Burt Reynolds and James Caan reportedly turned down the role of Han Solo.

9. Pulp Fiction

A movie whose various plotlines are far too intertwined to summarise in a paragraph or two, Pulp Fiction simply tells the story of a day in the life of a group of unusual people—two hitmen, the wife of a gangster, and a boxer who killed in the ring among others.

Edited to tie each story together, the movie often plays out of sequence—to the point where the final scene and the opening scene take place at the same time. Full of pop culture references and quotable lines, Pulp Fiction stays true to form as a Tarantino movie.

Quote: Zed’s dead, baby. Zed’s dead.

Trivia: Vincent Vega (John Travolta) is the brother of Vic Vega, also known as Mr Blonde, in Reservoir Dogs.

8. The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

Set during the US Civil War, the movie follows the three protagonists Blondie (The Good), Snake Eyes (The Bad) and Tuco (The Ugly) in their search for a hoard of gold stolen by bank robber Bill Carson. All three want 50% of the gold—resulting in a good old-fashioned standoff. Snake Eyes is shot dead, and the honorable Blondie allows Tuco his share of the booty.

Quote: You see, in this world there’s two kinds of people, my friend: Those with loaded guns and those who dig. You dig.

Trivia: Clint Eastwood wore the same poncho for all three ‘Man With No Name’ movies—without washing it once.

7. Schindler’s List

Schindler’s List tells the true story of Oscar Schindler, a **** industrialist who becomes so moved by the plight of the Jewish people during World War II that he devotes himself to saving as many as he can. Even after rescuing over 1,100 Jews from the gas chamber, Schindler bemoans the fact that he could have saved more had he sacrificed everything he had.

Quote: I could have got more out. I could have got more. I don’t know. If I’d just… I could have got more.

Trivia: Steven Spielberg refused to take any pay for the film, claiming that it would feel like he was taking ‘blood money’.

6. The Seven Samurai

Regarded as Akira Kurosawa’s greatest film, the Seven Samurai tells the story of a terrorised village in war-torn 16th Century Japan. Constantly attacked by gangs of bandits, the residents enlist the services of seven ronin, or samurai without masters, to protect them.

Despite initial tensions between the villagers and the samurai, they together successfully defend the village against the bandits. However, their success comes at the cost of the lives of four samurai.

Quote: What’s the use of worrying about your beard when your head’s about to be taken?

Trivia: The three samurai whose characters survived the film were the first three to die in real life.

5. Casablanca

Hiding out in Casablanca, Morocco during World War II, exiled American and former freedom fighter Rick Blaine passes the time running a popular nightspot. Blaine’s tedium is interrupted when Czech Resistance leader Victor Laszlo arrives with his beautiful wife Ilsa—Blaine’s ex-lover.

Blaine holds the key to Laszlo’s safe passage out of the country, and Ilsa offers herself to him in exchange for her husband’s safety. Blaine faces the choice of sacrificing Laszlo to win back Ilsa, but in the end decides to do the honorable thing…

Quote: If that plane leaves the ground and you’re not with him, you’ll regret it. Maybe not today. Maybe not tomorrow, but soon and for the rest of your life.

Trivia: The line ‘Here’s lookin’ at you, kid’ was voted the 5th most well known movie line in history by the American Film Institute.

4. Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King

The third and final instalment of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, The Return of the King offers an epic finale to Frodo’s quest (thousands of extras took part in the filming to add to the drama). Finally arriving at Mt. Doom, Frodo is overcome by exhaustion and the stress of bearing the Ring. Helped by Sam, Frodo manages to make his way into the volcano.

At the last moment he finds himself unable to throw the Ring into the magma, choosing instead to wear it. Gollum, surviving Frodo’s earlier attempt on his life, attacks Frodo and bites off his finger, removing the ring. Losing his grip, Gollum falls into the pit along with the Ring, breaking its hold over Frodo and killing Sauron.

With Sauron’s death his army is destroyed, just in time to save the army of Men, poised to fight to the death at the gates of Mordor.

Quote: Come on, Mr. Frodo. I can’t carry it for you… but I can carry you.

Trivia: The Return of the King used over seven times the number of special effects shots used in an average movie.

3. The Godfather: Part II

Split between two timelines, the second instalment of The Godfather trilogy follows Don Vito Corleone through his adolescence in Sicily and New York during the early 20th Century, and later his rise to power as a Mafia Don. It also returns to a point a few years after the conclusion of the first movie, with Michael Corleone running the family interests following his father’s death.

After learning that his brother Fredo has betrayed the family, Michael must order his execution.

Quote: I know it was you Fredo. You broke my heart. You broke my heart!

Trivia: Robert de Niro won an Oscar for his portrayal of a young Vito Corleone. De Niro and Marlon Brando are the only actors to win Oscars for the portrayal of the same character.

2. The Shawshank Redemption

Based on a novella by Steven King, The Shawshank Redemption tells the story of Andy Dufresne, a successful banker wrongly convicted for the murder of his wife and her lover. Given two life sentences, Dufresne is sent to the maximum security Shawshank Prison where he befriends Ellis Boyd “Red” Redding, a lifer who helps him adjust to prison life.

Over the next twenty years their friendship grows while Andy has a positive effect on the inmates, helping to establish a prison library and education system. Unfortunately, the mean-spirited and criminal warden beats down Andy’s spirit until he finally escapes through a tunnel that took him two decades to dig.

In a final act of revenge Andy exposes the warden’s crimes, driving him to ******* to avoid being sent to prison. Red is later released on parole, and tracks down Andy to a beach in Mexico.

Quote: Get busy living, or get busy dying.

Trivia: The mugshots of Morgan Freeman as a young man are actually pictures of his real life son, Alfonso.

1. The Godfather

Adapted from Mario Puzo’s seminal Mafia novel, the first instalment of The Godfather trilogy sees Don Vito Corleone, head of the Corleone crime family, struggle with the realities of a changing world. When he refuses to work with drug dealer Virgil Sollozzo in a scheme to push heroin in New York, he falls foul of Sollozzo’s backers the Tattaglia family.

When Vito is wounded in an attempted assassination his son Michael—previously determined to have nothing to do with the family business—volunteers to kill Sollozzo. Following the execution Michael is sent to Sicily to hide out until it is safe to return. After Michael’s brother Sonny is executed by the rival Barzini family, Michael safely returns and takes his place as the head of the family in time to see Vito Corleone die of a heart attack. In revenge for the attacks on his family Michael arranges for the murder of the heads of the other families, to take place during the baptism ceremony of his nephew.

Following the baptism Michael orders the execution of the father of the baptised child—and his own brother in-law—Carlo Rizzi, in retribution for Carlo’s role in setting up Sonny’s death. The movie ends with the widow, Michael’s sister Connie, suspecting that Michael was involved in Carlo’s death.

Quote: I’ll make him an offer he can’t refuse.

Trivia: Sofia Coppola, the director’s daughter, played the baby baptised at the end of the movie. She returned to play the role of Michael’s daughter Mary in The Godfather: Part III).

So there you have it. If you’ve been paying attention you should now have just enough knowledge of the top ten movies of all time to bluff your way through a conversation with a movie buff. These bare bones won’t take you far, though, so I suggest you set aside some time, get a big bucket of popcorn, sit back and enjoy the best of Hollywood. You won’t be disappointed.

Unlimited Movies Download in One Click

Atomsri Sukpo asked:

ommon movie-buff, there is nothing as relaxing as reviewing a newly-watched quality movie, and then de-stressing by watching another movie. Some others merely love to keep up with the latest popular movies to keep them posted. Whatever the reason is, movies are popularly loved by everyone. However, not all movies may be acquired at the nearest video store. They do run out of stocks, making it difficult for someone to keep up with the latest movies or favorite movies. So here comes the next best alternative… unlimited movies download online.

Accessing these movies online can be done in one click, and of course with some moderately reasonable waiting time. Mostly, these sites compete as to who gives the most quality, who has the largest database, or most preferably for the consumer, who gives the least price offering. If you will look into these sites, they can actually offer the newest movies in the soonest possible time. So if you wish to take a look at these unlimited movies download sites, you might consider these following reminders:

1. Free vs. Paid Sites

Unlimited movies download sites may vary from free sharers to paid ones. The free sharing sites may have a limited database as they only depend on the voluntary sharers themselves. The paid sites however may have a bigger database because they try as much to produce the newest movies and the rarest movies to meet the demands of their market. The great difference between these sites is that paid sites may be able to offer much more secured files.

2. Think of security

Talking about security… In the middle of Internet Sites, there lurks, possible infectious files of all sorts that may actually be a grave threat to your PC. Therefore, if you are a self-confessed downloader, movies and other files alike, you must have an efficient spyware, adware or virus detector and blocker as a guard. There are times when files, especially in the free-sharing sites, may be labeled as a certain movie, but may actually be a virus waiting to be downloaded.

3. Get a good referral for a movie download site

If none of your friends have tried it, try looking for site reviews online. This will help you decide on the best sources to get “that” movie from. Site reviews will always display negative attributes of a site, especially from meticulous movie-buffs and enthusiasts as you are.

4. Be ready to be patient

Movies don’t download as fast as songs can, as their files may be bigger. Compared to getting a DVD from a video store, in a second from the racks, sometime you may need to wait days to weeks for that movie to finish downloading, depending on your Internet’s speed and how often you are online to activate the download.

Some great sites that may want to check out are ultimatemoviedownload.com, ezmovies.net, elitemoviedownloads, vongo.com or moviescapital.com. These sites may offer their unlimited movies download database for free or for some amount. Well, for the self-confessed movie buff, there is nothing as expensive when it comes to watching a good, quality, movie.

Avoid Getting Sued for Playing Music for your Business

Saturday, July 5th, 2008

Wendy O asked:

If you are a business owner or manager and are currently playing music in your venues or considering implementing music on hold, you need to be aware that the music you use must be licensed, or it will be considered illegal use of copyrighted music. If caught, you could be facing steep fines or possible legal action. The music industry is coming down hard on businesses that are unaware of or disregard proper licensing of copyrighted music, as is evident by a recent series of crackdowns on over two dozen venues in Seattle who failed to pay royalties on music they were playing. (ASCAP) The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers, says that these venues have been performing copyrighted music without permission. ASCAP is now actively going after local businesses that have not been paying to use copyrighted music. According to their web site any music that is played outside a direct circle of family and friends is considered a public performance; this includes restaurants playing background music or commonly known as in-store music, DJs and music on hold over phone lines.

Fortunately, if you are unwilling or unable to pay expensive music licensing fees but still would like to play music in your venues or implement music on hold, there is a less expensive alternative, Royalty Free Music. Unlike most music licenses, royalty free music only requires a typically low one time fee, and the purchaser is then free to use the music as often and in as many different ways as they like. The majority of music licenses stipulate how the music is to be used, and charge additional fees accordingly. If you’re looking for music you can use without being restricted by fussy contracts, you should consider royalty free music. One good source for royalty free music with clean and simple licensing terms is www.opuzz.com, one of the larger independent providers of quality royalty free music.

If you’re interested in royalty free music for your music on hold or venues, but are hesitant about the quality and believe popular music is the only way to engage customers you can relax. In addition to being legal and affordable, royalty free music from reputable libraries can be as appealing as any music heard on the radio today. With cutting-edge technology and compositions by talented professional musicians, the quality of royalty free music is on par with popular commercial music.

Because of the rising number of lawsuits being filed by the music industry against those who continue to implement music illegally, and the high cost of synchronization or needledrop licenses, royalty free music is becoming increasingly popular. It’s well worth the low fee, particularly if it keeps pricy lawsuits at bay plus it is easy to obtain. Music copyright laws are becoming increasingly more strict and complicated, and it is up to you to keep abreast of and act within these parameters. Pleading ignorance seems to be an unacceptable excuse with performance rights organizations like ASCAP and BMI. If you want to play music and not run afoul of the law seriously consider royalty free music. Get on-hold and on track with royalty free music.
