billboard top 40 music
Sylvie Charrier asked:

Do you keep track of the latest billboard hits and memorize the songs? The hip hop music of today is definitely more diverse with many new talents as it has ever been. Some of the top hits are still worthy of dancing to or even singing while in the shower. Much of the upbeat music is gaining popularity all over the world and with such a pop culture influenced world, the music is enough to keep you entertained for a long time.

The music of today is also unfortunately having more of a negative impact on today’s youth with its adult lyrics, sexual references and overall unwholesome background themes. The videos associated with some of the lyrics is not for children’s eyes. However new music like The Fray, Gnarls Barkley and solo artists Rihana and Cassie share unique sounds and instrumentals without the profanity that other pop artists are displaying.

This list gives such a variety of sounds and we discovered that some of the videos are very entertaining and energetic so not every song needs to be censored. It is still wise to preview some of the songs before listening.

Promiscuous-Nelly Furtado

Nelly Furtado has a unique voice and the music is one that reminds me of the 80’s band Berlin. As I visited this site featuring Nelly Furtado, I was immediately drawn to the CD cover and noticed also how much she looks like Sheena Easton from the early 80’s. I enjoy this upbeat music and know you will too.

Crazy-Gnarls Barkley

When you first hear DJ’s mention the name Gnarls Barkley, you may think they said Charles Barkley, as in the famous NBA legend, but it is actually new music and it is also a band not a solo act. The song “Crazy” by Gnarls Barkley shows unique art in the CD cover that actually caught my attention more than the unusual name of the band. It looks like something out of the Andy Warhol collection or even a Picasso painting.

Me & U-Cassie

The CD cover featuring the very athletic looking and talented young diva “Cassie” looks like something the younger crowd would purchase. The hip-hop artist shows off her sleek body frame in her debut title “Looking for Me & U”. Those of us that like up beat hip hot music will appreciate this unique blend of music.

Buttons-Pussycat Dolls

You may not be able to figure out the connection with the music and the CD cover but it is one that draws curiosity out of many of us that like hip hop music. The music has the familiar hip-hop sound flavor that is played at most night clubs but the man in the CD cover does not indicate the music style. It looks like a Euro-style portrait of a man in Moscow, especially with the red art on the cover.

It’s Goin’ Down-Yung Joc

Hip-hop rapper Yung Joc sings the popular “It’s Goin’ Down” track and it does carry a toe-tappin beat with it. The urban-like CD cover depicts this young rappers background and music.

Hips Don’t Lie-Shakira featuring Wyclef Jean

Another CD cover that may very well fool even the most knowledgeable in today’s hip-hop music. The **** model in the cover, possibly modeling as “Eve” holding an apple is nothing like what I had in mind for the featured song “Hips Don’t Lie” by Shakira. There is even a taste of reggae in the background whom I assume is the featured Wyclef Jean. It is an unusual title for a sound track but it is also an interesting sound from one of many newer hip-hop artists, Shakira.

Unfaithful-Rihanna

The young talent Rihanna and her short sound clip “Unfaithful” sounds a lot like Nelly Furtado’s music. A beautiful model-like pop singer also carries with her a beautiful voice and is definitely music that most of the younger crowd will appreciate.

Ain’t No Other Man-Christina Aguilera

The CD cover illustrates Christina shown in a vintage 1930’s setting next to a phonograph record player and the image may remind the viewers of an old record album cover our Grandparents may have once had. Once you play the short sampler you’ll soon recognize the familiar sounds of this talented hip-hop star who continues to gain popularity on the top 20 charts.

Over My Head-The Fray

This amazing graphic of the Stealth Bomber from the movie “Stealth” is an awesome display of power in a movie that is very much worth renting. A popular hit by one of the newer bands today, The Fray, sing their smash hit “Over my Head”(Cable Car). This CD also features a wide variety of other artists such as the more well known Sly and the Family Stones and David Bowie.

Snap Yo Fingers-Lil Jon Featuring E-40 & Sean Paul of The YoungBloodZ

Rapper Lil Jon plays his latest rif “Snap Yo Fingers” and has back up help from E-40 and Seal Paul of the Youngbloods and the image on the CD cover clearly shows his artistic talent. He almost appears in pain in the image but is clearly showing some serious enthusiasm and high energy.

And once people decide to start their rocking New Year dance or to bask in the actual thrill of multifarious activities, the passing of time becomes something where nobody’s attention goes and the entire eve is danced away with amazing furor. And being in the full mood of this furor, all the party buffs happily greet all the things that come their way with New Year. Why Satellite TV is Superior to Cable TV - a Non-technical Observation

Gareth Black asked:

Up until the mid 90s the American television viewing public had the option of either watching the programs provided by the established free-to-air channels, or else they could subscribe to cable TV. At that time the cable TV providers were at the forefront of improving the quality of programming and ensuring the use of the latest TV technology.

However the introduction of satellite TV in the mid 90s was the start of a new television era that not only led to a continual improvement in the variety and quality of the programs being shown, it was also the start of a period during which a rapid improvement in TV technology took place.

The public now had a greater choice of TV options - more competition in the market place led to greater benefits for viewers. A bigger choice of channels and programs; cheaper subscription rates; improved customer service; and special deals for new subscribers. Families who wanted to improve their home entertainment choices now had a realistic choice - satellite TV or cable TV.

The major difference between the two types of systems is in the way the TV signal is transmitted. With cable, the signal is delivered to each household via a network of cables. The competing system uses a satellite situated in the south that transmits the signal to a satellite dish located usually on the roof of the subscriber’s house.

In the not too distant future satellite TV will become the most popular TV system in the country. There are a number of reasons why new subscribers and existing cable TV customers are taking up satellite TV in large numbers.

1) As the cable TV companies have been increasing their subscription charges at a faster rate than the satellite companies, cable is now dearer than satellite for the same program options and service. This trend is expected to continue in the future.

2) Satellite TV has a reputation for being more reliable than cable. Annoying transmission disruptions occur much more frequently with cable and are usually caused by bad weather conditions, a situation that doesn’t affect signal transmission by satellite. This problem is one of the major reasons for subscribers switching over to satellite.

3) All satellite TV channels are transmitted in 100% digital for both picture and sound. This feature provides a much more pleasurable and satisfying experience than watching many of the channels shown by cable TV. Another example of the better technology employed by the satellite companies.

4) Due to the superior technical features of satellite TV, it can provide a larger number of channels than cable therefore offering a much wider range of programming options for all. In addition to the free-to-air channels offered by the long-established TV companies - NBC, CBS, ABC, and Fox - all the popular programs presently shown on cable are available on satellite, plus many more. Indeed there is something for all interests whether it be news, current affairs and documentaries; sports; children’s’ programs; movies; light entertainment or sitcoms. Specials events such as concerts, sports etc. are also available.

5) Signing up new TV subscribers is a very competitive business. The two major satellite TV companies spend huge amounts on advertising trying to entice families to switch from cable and the other satellite company. What this means to those looking for a new TV provider is that there are plenty of deals and inducements around. From free equipment and installation, deals on program packages, and deals offered by the installers, new subscribers have never had it so good.

6) Regular surveys of the level of customer satisfaction clearly and consistently show that the satellite TV companies and their installers out-perform the cable companies.

7) Satellite TV subscribers can benefit from access to an internet connection provided by the satellite dish, giving a faster connection than by cable.

The intense level of competition between the two major satellite TV companies will always ensure that subscription rates are competitive and that the programming options will improve.

So for those families looking at a different option than their present service provider then there’s no better time to make that change than now. There’s plenty of great deals around with no equipment to buy; very little commitment on the part of the subscriber; and customer care is as good as ever.

The American public demands constantly improved  satellite TV services. To satisfy this demand one of the biggest providers, Dish Network regularly upgrades its already large range of channels - a range that surpasses anything the cable TV companies offer.

James Shenton asked:

Are you a movie dunce? Do you not know your Corleone from your Kurosawa? Would you recognise a lightsaber if it hit you in the face? Well, don’t panic. To help you catch up on your movie knowledge here’s the second instalment in your 2-part crash course in the top 10 movies of all time, as voted by the readers of the Internet Movie Database. Careful, though… here be spoilers.

5. Casablanca

Hiding out in Casablanca, Morocco during World War II, exiled American and former freedom fighter Rick Blaine passes the time running a popular nightspot. Blaine’s tedium is interrupted when Czech Resistance leader Victor Laszlo arrives with his beautiful wife Ilsa—Blaine’s ex-lover.

Blaine holds the key to Laszlo’s safe passage out of the country, and Ilsa offers herself to him in exchange for her husband’s safety. Blaine faces the choice of sacrificing Laszlo to win back Ilsa, but in the end decides to do the honorable thing…

Quote: If that plane leaves the ground and you’re not with him, you’ll regret it. Maybe not today. Maybe not tomorrow, but soon and for the rest of your life.

Trivia: The line ‘Here’s lookin’ at you, kid’ was voted the 5th most well known movie line in history by the American Film Institute.

4. Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King

The third and final instalment of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, The Return of the King offers an epic finale to Frodo’s quest (thousands of extras took part in the filming to add to the drama). Finally arriving at Mt. Doom, Frodo is overcome by exhaustion and the stress of bearing the Ring. Helped by Sam, Frodo manages to make his way into the volcano.

At the last moment he finds himself unable to throw the Ring into the magma, choosing instead to wear it. Gollum, surviving Frodo’s earlier attempt on his life, attacks Frodo and bites off his finger, removing the ring. Losing his grip, Gollum falls into the pit along with the Ring, breaking its hold over Frodo and killing Sauron.

With Sauron’s death his army is destroyed, just in time to save the army of Men, poised to fight to the death at the gates of Mordor.

Quote: Come on, Mr. Frodo. I can’t carry it for you… but I can carry you.

Trivia: The Return of the King used over seven times the number of special effects shots used in an average movie.

3. The Godfather: Part II

Split between two timelines, the second instalment of The Godfather trilogy follows Don Vito Corleone through his adolescence in Sicily and New York during the early 20th Century, and later his rise to power as a Mafia Don. It also returns to a point a few years after the conclusion of the first movie, with Michael Corleone running the family interests following his father’s death.

After learning that his brother Fredo has betrayed the family, Michael must order his execution.

Quote: I know it was you Fredo. You broke my heart. You broke my heart!

Trivia: Robert de Niro won an Oscar for his portrayal of a young Vito Corleone. De Niro and Marlon Brando are the only actors to win Oscars for the portrayal of the same character.

2. The Shawshank Redemption

Based on a novella by Steven King, The Shawshank Redemption tells the story of Andy Dufresne, a successful banker wrongly convicted for the murder of his wife and her lover. Given two life sentences, Dufresne is sent to the maximum security Shawshank Prison where he befriends Ellis Boyd “Red” Redding, a lifer who helps him adjust to prison life.

Over the next twenty years their friendship grows while Andy has a positive effect on the inmates, helping to establish a prison library and education system. Unfortunately, the mean-spirited and criminal warden beats down Andy’s spirit until he finally escapes through a tunnel that took him two decades to dig.

In a final act of revenge Andy exposes the warden’s crimes, driving him to ******* to avoid being sent to prison. Red is later released on parole, and tracks down Andy to a beach in Mexico.

Quote: Get busy living, or get busy dying.

Trivia: The mugshots of Morgan Freeman as a young man are actually pictures of his real life son, Alfonso.

1. The Godfather

Adapted from Mario Puzo’s seminal Mafia novel, the first instalment of The Godfather trilogy sees Don Vito Corleone, head of the Corleone crime family, struggle with the realities of a changing world. When he refuses to work with drug dealer Virgil Sollozzo in a scheme to push heroin in New York, he falls foul of Sollozzo’s backers the Tattaglia family.

When Vito is wounded in an attempted assassination his son Michael—previously determined to have nothing to do with the family business—volunteers to kill Sollozzo. Following the execution Michael is sent to Sicily to hide out until it is safe to return.

After Michael’s brother Sonny is executed by the rival Barzini family, Michael safely returns and takes his place as the head of the family in time to see Vito Corleone die of a heart attack. In revenge for the attacks on his family Michael arranges for the murder of the heads of the other families, to take place during the baptism ceremony of his nephew.

Following the baptism Michael orders the execution of the father of the baptised child—and his own brother in-law—Carlo Rizzi, in retribution for Carlo’s role in setting up Sonny’s death. The movie ends with the widow, Michael’s sister Connie, suspecting that Michael was involved in Carlo’s death.

Quote: I’ll make him an offer he can’t refuse.

Trivia: Sofia Coppola, the director’s daughter, played the baby baptised at the end of the movie. She returned to play the role of Michael’s daughter Mary in The Godfather: Part III).

So there you have it. If you’ve been paying attention you should now have just enough knowledge of the top ten movies of all time to bluff your way through a conversation with a movie buff. These bare bones won’t take you far, though, so I suggest you set aside some time, get a big bucket of popcorn, sit back and enjoy the best of Hollywood. You won’t be disappointed.

Clear Crisp Quality Of DVD Movies

Thursday, March 20th, 2008

Daniel Millions asked:

The picture quality of the DVD has advanced T.V quality many folds. You can purchase DVD’s by the hundreds or even by the thousands at various sites online. The video industry knows that it better keep the prices low in order to compete with the high quality bootleg versions available.

Not only that but also those same clear quality movies often appear online before the movie is even released. From the different places I went to the average price for a DVD movie is roughly six dollars each. The prices are only going to go lower with such emerging technologies such as the video hand held devices. The day is coming where people will be able to get their movies on demand at anytime and any place. Just as .mp3’s revolutionized the music, technology will alter the way we view movies.

There was something I noticed a few years back that I found very interesting. There was this movie called Skulls II at my local DVD rental store. To my surprise it was a direct to DVD sequel of The Skulls I had previously seen. Not only that but a third part was also made straight to DVD. You often find movies that can’t be seen in theaters or on cable because they were made just to be released as a DVD.

This isn’t something rare either. I have found several sequels to popular movies. It’s not too un-realistic to think that we may completely lose interest as a society in going to the movies. Why not just keep making movies for only DVD releases? Maybe they will go down that route as DVD movies gain in popularity and movie going diminishes.

Many retailers only advertise their new movies but what the ads don’t show is that they have thousands. So many movies that were made in the past have been put on DVD to ensure the movie last forever. Many of the great works may have been lost or forgotten if they hadn’t been released on DVD. Places such as pawn shops, want ads, and thrift store usual have stacks of DVD’s. I have seen them as low as two dollars a piece.

You can find many gems just spending so time looking through them. There are still plenty of movies that are hard to find. Some were released limitedly or keep selling off of the shelves. Going to a garage sale can get you hundreds of DVD movies at next to nothing. I just give my duplicate copies away to friends. Don’t be afraid to buy used DVD’s, they quality of DVD’s has gone up so must that it’s hard to ruin one.

They are pretty strong and don’t scratch as easily as they once did. My local DVD renters sell off their used DVD movies. There are many good deals and hard to find titles at DVD renters also. If you want to rent movies online, you can do that too. There are places that will deliver your DVD movies to you.

All sellers should be fair with the prices of their DVD movies. They have to realize that there is an abundance of them out there now. DVD’s overtook the standard VHS tape over in no time. People were anxious to trade their film for a disk. Just as they had a few years before with the compact disk. DVD movies were made fast and in large amounts for everyone to enjoy.

We know more and more about our favorite celebrities nowadays. We know what they do (thanks to Internet bloggers all over the world keeping a close tab on the whereabouts of any A, B or C-list celebrity. There are many blog sites that you can log in to every day to know what’s new in the world of celebrity gossip. Sometimes it seems as if celebrities are just swapping one house for another. They buy a new home just to be close to the set for their latest film or they sell a property just because the weather is not nice enough where they live.

It can be fun to keep track of your favorite celebrity and what is more interesting than finding out how these people live? Does their house look anything like ours? What things do they like and what kind of sofa or bathroom do they have? Every person is curious and it’s great to be able to see what a house by someone you think you know looks like. Of course the privacy of celebrities has to be respected. These people may have chosen a profession that could throw them into the limelight at any time and fame and dealing with fans go with the territory.

In their quest for the best home many celebrities know that it can be impossible to hide your address and properties from prying eyes. Jessica Simpson, an American actress and singer discovered this to be true herself. She lived in a $ 3 million mansion in California when she was filming her documentary series Newlyweds after her marriage to singer Nick Lachey there. The marriage ended after the series and after 3 years Jessica and Nick announced their divorce. Only weeks after this fact was made public Jessica had to discover from the newspapers that she successfully purchased her new home.

The house that she now owns used to be owned by presenter Ellen DeGeneres and cost her $5.3 million. For that money she has 7 bathrooms and 5 bedrooms in California.
