Caravans Getting More Popular

Alison White asked:

After caravans made history centuries ago, became associated with the hippy lifestyle. Nowadays the caravan is having a surprising recovery.

Knights used the caravans in Crusades and the people who afforded to have one used it as tool for moving around. The conquest of Wild West is probably the one who made the caravans famous. What would it have been like to cross the Rocky Mountains without the covered wagons? The alternative was a cold draughty ride on a horse or tramping along in the mud. Only a hundred years ago you could see brightly painted horse-pulled Romany caravans on our roads.

But what about now, when you have roads and maps and so many means of getting where you want? What would be now the role of caravans? You can find the answer in the need of freedom people are still having.

In the last century motor-car ownership took off but the same thing happened to caravans and soon drivers found themselves queuing behind lines of caravans on the way to the coast. For decades the typical image of motor-caravanners was probably that of a hippy family in an old VW. Nowadays the image of caravans is so much improved and in many cases caravan became a luxury home-from-home with a price to match.

By the time more and more people that had money to spend became interested in having their own home from home that could give them the freedom to travel all over the place in good condition, the static caravan took off. These uncool and static caravans located by the sea or by the wild forests are now history.

Lately caravanning became one of the country’s most popular holidays. Celebrities enjoy this way of traveling or more accurate this way of living. Actresses like Helen Mirren and Tracy Shaw, singers like Mark Owen, Chris Evans and even Sir Jimmy Saville are owners and satisfied users of caravans. And now we can talk about fancy, luxury and styled caravans.

The classic old hand built caravans, such as the Stirling and the Carlight, used to be expensive - the top of the market. Back in the fifties, these caravans were bought and run by owners of the Armstrong Siddeley, Lagonda and Rover cars. The owners thought nothing about embarking on overseas trips with them of thousands of miles.

Davion W asked:

Everyone wants to watch satellite TV online for free. It is a fact, people love free stuff, especially if the stuff is valuable. Well, it is within reach for people to watch satellite TV online for free, and we are talking about TV channels here. You probably have heard viewers talking about watching free TV on computer through satellite. These are actually Free to Air (FTA) satellite TV channels which are broadcast for public viewing. While the programs are free to watch, the equipment used to watch satellite TV online is not free. But it would not bankrupt you as we learn more in this article.

There are a couple of ways to watch satellite TV online for free. Some FTA TV stations have taken their TV programs online. Two rather popular TV channels are BeeLineTV.com and JumpTV.com. Basically, through these channels, you get to watch satellite TV online for free and you get all kinds of general TV channels streamed over to your PC. If you are keen, just try out these sites and other similar online streaming TV video sites to find out more.

Another way is using PCTV cards to enable our computers to process the online streaming of TV channels so that we can watch satellite TV online. There are some minimum requirements for our PC, so be sure to check out the RAM, CPU speed, graphics card, sound card and whether your PC has an external USB port. Note these down and when you get to the local computer hardware retail shop, remember to ask if the PCTV cards on sale are compatible with your computer. This cannot be over-emphasized. PCTV cards would transform our computer into a TV set ready to allow us to watch satellite TV online for free.

The third and reputedly the best way to watch satellite TV online is to use PC satellite TV software. Such software emerged in the market not too long ago but has already won the praises of even TV critics. The reason is quite simply because the setup is super-easy, and once installed, anyone can watch satellite TV online with a few mouse clicks. People love the fact that you do not have to cough out a single dollar for the more than thousand satellite TV channels they can watch. But that is of course after they have purchased the license to the software which is rather affordable.

If you do a quick comparison between the 3 methods to watch satellite TV online for free, there are merits in all. Watching online TV through online satellite TV sites is naturally 100 percent free. However, you are limited in your program selection. As for using PCTV cards, it used to be the darling of online TV viewers but the cost has always been a concern. It can cost a few hundred dollars for a good quality PCTV card. That leaves PC satellite TV software as the choice option for watching satellite TV online.

Anyone who owns the software gets instant access to more than 2000 satellite TV stations’ programs. That is a huge list of TV programs by any standards. Since these are FTA programs, you get to watch them for free. Now, this is the biggest advantage. Wide program selection for zilch! There are programs like TV shows, movies, music videos, LIVE sports channels, game shows, news and so on. It caters to the taste and needs of every family member from the little ones to the retired grandparents.

You have seen it all. These are the few ways people use to watch satellite TV online for free. If you are keen to find out more details about PC satellite TV software, sign up for my satellite TV guide for quick tips on how to watch satellite TV online for free after buying the software.

Victor Epand asked:

Movie making is a work of art or a cultural show piece that reflects the cultural nuances of a certain generation and society. Compared to other forms of media, the film is a relatively new medium though it has already scaled great heights over the years. Films are a very powerful and influential means of educating people. A popular Chinese proverb says that ‘a picture is worth a thousand words’. We can say that films are very effective in instructing and educating people.

The popularity of films easily spreads to their makers too. People identify certain films and the way they are made or the message they carry with that of the makers. Some all time favorite moviemakers are Alfred Hitchcock, D.W. Griffith, Orson Welles, Jean-Luc Godard, Sergei Eisenstein, Charlie Chaplin, Federico Fellini, Jean Renoir, Ingmar Bergman, and Akira Kurosawa.

The British born moviemaker *** producer, Alfred Hitchcock, is considered as the pioneer of suspense and thriller movies. He directed nearly sixty films whose time span ranged from the silent to the talkies era. Hitchcock is one of the best known and most popular of moviemakers of all time. The major elements of his movies are fear and fantasy where the protagonists are innocent people. They are shown as caught up in various circumstances that are mostly beyond their control and understanding.

In 1925 Alfred Hitchcock directed his first movie The pleasure Garden that was a major commercial success. Some of his other popular movies are Rebecca, Psycho, Dial M for Murder, The Man Who Knew Too Much, etc.

D.W. Griffith, often considered as the father of modern movie making, made over 450 short films. His movies consist of two parts. He was good at both story-telling as well as technical know how. He is best known for his controversial 1915 film The birth of a Nation. Through his mastery in editing, he invented and popularized the concept of cross cutting. In layman’s terms, this means alternating between different events with the aim of building suspense. His cinematographer, Billy Bitzer, shares a lot of the credit for cinematic innovations. Some of his commercially successful movies are Broken Blossom, Way down East, and Orphans of the Storm.

Sergei Eisenstein was a revolutionary Soviet Russian film director known for his ground breaking use of montage. He believed that editing could be used for more than just clarifying a scene or a moment, or for establishing a linkage of a related scene. Though his films were silent they are still noted for their innovations. Some of his masterpieces are Strike, Battleship Potemkin, and Oktober.

The silent movies of Charlie Chaplin have the strange ability of talking to the audience. Hence, he is counted as one of the all time favorite moviemakers. He was one of the first Hollywood superstars who drew a record number of audiences to the theatres. We can say that his movies stood between entertainment for children and the seriousness of adults. His movies talked about social, political, and economic injustice, all in such an appealing way that it seemed less didactic and more entertaining.

In the movies of Jean Renoir, one glimpses the world of art and film mingled into each other. He engaged masterful visuals with the help of lighting, location, focus and camera angle that added a new and exciting dimension to the film. The well-known films of Renoir are The River, Diary of Chambermaid, and The Woman on the Beach.

The above lists tell us that these moviemakers have dared to break all the rules and take risks. They are therefore remembered and respected for what they did without bowing down to established notions, and traditional norms of filmmaking. Their work is a blend of creativity and a daring attitude that transforms them into all time favorite moviemakers.

Akira Continues To Advance In Popularity In Japan

Kyle Newton asked:

Katsuhiro Otomo’s name may be somewhat unfamiliar to those in the United States, but in Japan he is one of the top manga artists to ever be published. Otomo has been behind several projects that received major recognition, particularly in the anime field. He was involved with the films Steam Boy, Metropolis, and Memories. But perhaps his most famous project is Akira.

Akira ran as a series from 1982 to 1990. The series was collected into a 2,000 plus page graphic novel. Akira tells the story of Kaneda and his biker gang who fight against the Clown biker gang. During this ongoing gang war, Kaneda’s younger friend Tetsuo begins to display psychokinetic abilities that render him into a nearly god-like state. The story takes place after World War 3 in Neo-Tokyo, after the first Tokyo was destroyed in a nuclear attack.

The manga was adapted into an anime film that proved to be tremendously popular and helped to change the way many Americans viewed the animation medium, due to its gritty, violent, and dark nature. The film proved to be so popular, that it was not long before fans of the anime began to question if there would ever be a live action film.

Despite the popularity of the film, there were some grievances with the structure of the film, due to the fact that the film tried to tell the whole story, but as a result, approximately 40% of the story from the manga remained. Many felt it would have worked better as a trilogy. Fans wishing for a live action film, however, may soon get their wish.

On February 20, 2008 it was announced that Warner Brothers had acquired the rights to produce two feature length, live action films based on Akira with Ruairi Robinson to direct, in his directorial debut in feature length films. Robinson has received several award nominations for his short film work and commercials.

The films, however, are not going to be 100% faithful due to the fact that they will be an Americanization of the manga, as opposed to bringing on Japanese actors. The film takes place in New Manhattan, instead of Neo-Tokyo.

Many fans have been unsure of their stance on the film and are awaiting a statement from Katsuhiro Otomo proclaiming his satisfaction or disdain before they make a full stance. The first installment of Akira is expected to open in 2009.
