Groshan Fabiola asked:

Gary Dourdan has been a mainstay on the CBS hit drama CSI: Crime Scene Investigation since it premiered back in October of 2000. He plays Warrick Brown in the ensemble cast which includes veterans William Peterson, Marg Helgenberger and Paul Guilfoyle. The original series set in Las Vegas, has been a consistent top rater and is still the strongest and most solid of the three CSI shows. CSI has given rise to two spin-offs, CSI: Miami and CSI: NY.

CSI has become the premier forensic drama series since it started and while many have followed in its steps, the Las Vegas show continues to set the bar, not only for its franchise but for the genre as well.

There have been upsides and downsides to the show’s success and popularity. The science of forensics has gained a massive following due to the show’s focus and format. Dourdan recounts that he has received mixed feedback regarding the impact of the show. He recalls how young fans, especially kids, have approached him to ask about forensic criminology while law enforcers have expressed some frustration over the amount of inside information criminals can gather from the episodes. “There’s some good and bad to it I suppose,” Dourdan explained. “That’s what we get from law enforcement all the time, criminals watch our shows, this is what to see what not to do!” Because of the highly specific and scientific elements to the forensics involved in the show’s episodes, many trade secrets and investigative tools have become public knowledge, potentially giving would-be criminals and lawbreakers an edge at eluding capture and persecution.

Despite some of the drawbacks, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation remains a formidable force in the ratings game. It is also the only one of the three CSI shows to retain all of its original cast throughout its seven seasons. This has allowed its stars, including Dourdan, to learn a great deal about the world of forensic criminology. He says that despite its run, there hasn’t been a shortage of new things to assimilate and learn because the writers and producers are always giving them new material, stories, plots and science to work with.

Owning a car advertised or owned by actors, sportspersons or celebrities, is a dream of every youngster. A star stepping out of their favorite cars like a limousine or a Mercedes is a very common scene. Whenever they have to attend special events, a luxurious car drops them at their venue; it makes them appear more glamorous.

The top player in the celebrity class car market, Mercedes Benz, has a classy look and brilliant performance to match that. Movie stars like Britney Spears drives the Mercedes SL500 while Jim Carrey loves to move around in a McLaren SLR.

The Stretch Limousine came into picture after the First World War. It was made in Forth Smith, Arkansas in the U.S. These stretch limos were used to transport the well known “big band” leaders like Benny Goodman and Glenn Miller along with their musical instruments, equipments and orchestras across the country. Due to this, the early stretch cars were also referred to as “big band buses”. The limos have extra amenities including the flat screen television, audio players, bars, video players, and sometimes, refrigerators too.

Popular Movies Mean Popular Cars

In most of rock star Elvis Presley movies, his 1955 pink-colored Cadillac Fleetwood car was featured in a number of shots. This was the only car that he kept until he passed away. Another popular car in the movie industry was Bullet. This car was driven by Steve McQueen in the longest car chase scenes in the history of movies. Actors Leslie Nielson and O. J. Simpson in the movie ***** Gun get stuck in their squad cars that was parked at weird angle.

There are lot of names in the film industry, who owns special cars. Most of them rarely drive their cars, and even if they drive, they prefer broadways only to keep paparazzi off their cars.

Defining Movie Genres Horror Movies

Sunday, December 23rd, 2007

Jerry Glynn asked:

One of the most popular movie genres is the Horror movie, and it is also one of the oldest. Film pioneer Georges Melies made supernatural events the subject of many of his silent film shorts, his most notable being Le Manoir du diable, or The House of The Devil, in 1896, which some consider to be the first horror film.

The first movie monster in a feature length horror film, per se, was Quasimodo, the Hunchback of Notre Dame. Before that Wegeners The Golem, in 1915, and Robert Wienes The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, and the first vampire movie, Nosferatu.

Lon Chaney Sr. was the first American horror movie star, playing the leads in both The Hunchback of Notre Dame in 1923 and The Monster in 1925. He is best known, however, for his title role in the 1925 version of The Phantom of the Opera. In the 1930s Gothic Horror films became all the rage in Hollywood. These included Dracula in 1931, starring Bela Lugosi, The Mummy in 1932, and one of the most controversial horror movies ever made, Freaks, based on the short story Spurs by Ted Robbins. How controversial. So much so that the studio burned at least thirty minutes of the films footage and then disowned it completely.

The horror movie genre expanded in the 1950s and 60s to include movies that featured threats from the outside, such as mutations, aliens, and zombies. This was also the era of 3D glasses and the Percepto electroshock technique used on theatre audiences during showings of the movie The Tingler.

In 1964, the Production Code of America fell by the wayside, and movies focusing on gore and the occult began being produced, starting with Rosemarys Baby in 1968 The Exorcist in 1973, and The Omen in 1976. The first adaptation of a Stephen King novel, Carrie, was also released in 1976.

In the 1980s, the horror movie genre saw the inclusion of films like Nightmare On Elm Street, starring Robert Englund, Friday The Thirteenth, Childs Play, and Creepshow, all of which spawned several sequels. This trend continued in the 1990s, and the trend of self reflective horror films, like Carrie, continued as well with movies like Interview With The Vampire, which was based on the popular Anne Rice novel of the same name. self parodying movies, like the Scream trilogy were popular as well.

Modern horror films place more of an emphasis on gore and torture than their predecessors, as evidenced by the success of the Saw films. Remakes of classic horror films, such as The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Dawn of The Dead have also gained followings in their own right. The horror movie genre is one that is both timeless and constantly evolving.

Filtering Through Celebrity Gossip Lies and Truth

Saturday, December 22nd, 2007
celebrity gossip
Gen Wright asked:

new celebrity gossip stories hit the front pages of the entertainment sites but how does one separate the truth from fiction? Of the popular news media outlets some of the more established like People Magazine, tend to be more reliable sources, confirming stories as much as possible before publishing. This tends to make these outlets trusted sources but at the same time often slow to come out with controversial news that’s harder to confirm and that might cause backlash. After all if a story reflects poorly on a celebrity, they and their reps are not likely to confirm and may in fact blatantly deny until totally cornered. They may also be reluctant to co-operate with that media outlet in the future.

There are also many media outlets that are more daring and will go forward with publishing a story pretty readily if they believe it’s based on truth, even if the gossip is based on circumstantial evidence. These types of stories require the most detective work to weigh the validity of the story. New couple alerts are a good example. Celebrities are often spotted ‘looking cozy’ together all the time. Sometimes these types of stories have some supporting photo evidence, other times it’s based on hearsay third party witnesses. Many times these stories are just planted by reps. and the celebrities themselves for publicity purposes. Jennifer Aniston is forever being linked to every leading man she works with, especially since her splitting from Brad Pitt. Fans want to see Jen find love again and tabloids are anxious to deliver to sell magazines. Two thirds of those stories or more are false of course. When Jen was initially linked with John Mayer, frankly I was skeptical. The funny/sad thing was, when Jen broke up with Mayer, she was immediately linked with another hot new guy. This rumor which should have made anyone highly skeptical soon proved to be false but that’s the nature of this business. Without going into a whole manifesto here, another type of story example that’s usually hard to get confirmation on is celebrities stricken with health issues. It was ‘The National Enquirer’ that broke the news on the Patrick Swayze cancer story, which was confirmed by his rep. after the actor was ‘outed’. Meanwhile stories like, Paul Newman’s alleged battle with cancer has never been officially confirmed.

Many gossip news outlets fall into a third category. Seemingly under the gun to crank out new articles, they throw in a few ‘trash gossip’ stories in the mix of each publication. Most of these fiction based stories are not malicous, and based on some shred of truth, that I call ‘progression stories’. A celebrity dating the same person for a while, is reported to be, breaking up, cheating or planning their wedding. A celebrity known to drink, is going to rehab. A celebrity is photographed with a new ring, there engaged. A couple weeks before Jennifer Aniston split up with John Mayer she appeared on two magazine covers on the same week. One reporting she was planning her wedding, the second saying she was already making plans to have a baby.

My biggest pet peeves in the truth and lies game is twofold:

Media outlets and websites that deliberately publish malicious ‘false stories’ for the sake of publicity. Many of these stories capitalizing on celebrities misfortunes and are attention grabbing but often based on nothing more then conjecture or just imagination. A recent trash story, that had my blood boiling, claimed that Christina Applegate was going to put off treatment for ****** cancer so she could have a baby! The tabloid picked up on the fact that: ‘Christina told an interviewer that she didn’t want to wait until her mid-forties to have a baby, and that her biological clock was ticking.’We learned 5 days later that Christina Applegate had already had a double mastectomy performed to remove the cancer.

Likewise media outlets that turn their back on certain types of stories because they don’t want to get their hands dirty or offend their audience. Recently the NY Post’s famous Page Six published under their ‘blind items’:

‘Which hunk in a summer movie is a violent, closeted **********? The heartthrob snuck into his ex’s apartment a few months ago and ***** him so violently, the ex ended up in the hospital - and the actor paid him $500,000 to keep his mouth shut.’

Well I guess you can see why they might be a bit reluctant to name, names. It’s not unusual for one of these blind items, which are posted frequently to eventually be reported with names by more daring publishers.
